PAST

The Fern Theatre Company was founded in Atlanta, GA by two actors; Jessica Hunt and Douglas Graham.  We began producing modern and new plays, and in 2012 produced our very first Shakespeare play. The Fern produced an all female production of Macbeth. The success of Macbeth led to the development of our Classically Female Series which has included Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet and King Lear.

In the summer of 2016 the decision was made to move the company to Seattle, WA and turn our focus specifically towards producing Original Practice Shakespeare. Thus, The Fern Shakespeare Company was born!

The Fern Shakespeare Company is the resident theater company of The Slate Theater.

  • 2017, A Season of Magic: The Fern Shakespeare Company’s inaugural Seattle Season

  • 2018, A Season of Pursuit: FSC officially takes over management of The Slate Theater and begins renovations.

  • 2019, A Season of Transformation: FSC completes renovations on The Slate Theater.

FUTURE

We hope that the Global Pandemic will allow us to produce theatre again in 2022. With each production FSC’s core aesthetic became a little clearer. We continue to break down the walls that stand between the audience and the words of William Shakespeare. Whether it is through productions or educational programming, FSC helps to strengthen our community as we look to the future with wide eyes and open hearts.
