Happy New Year From The Fern!

Welcome to the new Fern Shakespeare Company blog! Happy 2017!!!!  You may notice something different in our name—We are now officially The Fern Shakespeare Company (previously The Fern Theatre).

Why did we change our name? Well, simply, we decided that we wanted our company’s focus to be on Original Practice Shakespeare performance.  We’ve already produced four Shakespeare plays and we realized that we wanted to devote our company’s mission to the production of amazing & accessible classical theatre.  To emphasize this, we decided to change our name to The Fern Shakespeare Company. Yay!  With the new name, comes a new web address—you can find us on the web at FernShakespeare.com and on Facebook & Twitter!

With this new name we come to you from a whole new city & state!  That’s right—we moved from Atlanta, GA to Seattle, WA!  We thank Atlanta and our awesome audience for four amazing years!

We are so excited to start performing in Seattle!  The enthusiasm for theatre and Shakespeare here is so heartening, and we’ve cast a fantastic Acting Company full of Shakespeare Experts! These Company Members will be at the heart of many of our productions, so you’ll get a chance to see them in many varied roles. Click here to learn more about our AMAZING Acting Company Members!

Now to the HUGE announcement—our First Seattle Season!  That’s right—you are the first to hear about our new Seattle Season, truly a Season of Magic.  We have 3 shows scheduled in 2017: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Macbeth and The Tempest!

Macbeth

Join us in May for Shakespeare's darkest tragedy Macbeth.  The bard's famous tale of temptation, betrayal and lust for power is brought to life as performed by a cast of eight actors portraying a total of twenty-six characters. Is it fate that drives us forward or the choices we make that truly define who we are? Macbeth runs for 3 weeks May 5-24th at Theatre 4 at TPS (4th floor, Armory, Seattle Center). Tickets will go on sale at the end of the month.

The Tempest

Running in the Fall of 2017.  The Tempest is Shakespeare's most lyrical play blending magic, revenge, and deception.  The Tempest will be performed at The Slate in Fall 2017 (Dates TBA).  We'll post more info as we have it.

We hope you have a wonderful 2017 and hope to see you at Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Macbeth, and The Tempest!

 Shakespeare Fun Fact!

An outbreak of the plague in Europe resulted in all London theatres being closed between 1592 and 1594. As there was no demand for plays during this time, Shakespeare began to write poetry, completing his first batch of sonnets in 1593, aged 29. So we have the plague to thank for his sonnets!
